Meeting Kurt Elling
My manager Jack Strom gave me a wonderful 21st birthday present….he flew me down from Sydney and provided me with a ticket to Kurt Elling’s concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra on 30th May! I had an amazing few days in Melbourne and had the opportunity of hearing some awesome music at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival,
Kurt Elling is often referred to as ‘the singers’ singer” because of his truly unique approach to singing and the way he uses his voice as an instrument. His vocal tone is unique and his interpretation constantly challenges the normal conventions of performance. I have always loved his music, but seeing him “live” with an orchestra was a totally new experience for me.
The New York Times refers to him “as the standout male vocalist of our time” and I can see why.
To top it off, after the show I was able to have a chat with Kurt and get a photo with him!
